Pete & Rose - 12:30PM
There were two things Rose liked on hot June days like today: sun dresses and grilled food. Lucky for her, today she got both. Maybe her buttercup colored dress wasn’t the most professional attire, though it certainly wasn’t her least, but it was lunch and she sure as hell wasn’t wearing a labcoat to a burger joint. The cowboy boots might have been a tad much, but eh. It was Texas.
Running thin fingers through her she flipped the messy, blonde curls to the right, exposing the peach fuzz of her undercut as they made the final street cross to the holy grail of burgers; Burger, She Wrote. Blue eyes cut towards Pete with a complimentary smirk, already knowing good and well what she wanted to order. “Know what ya’ want? Cheese burger with a side of secrets fries?”
He gave a good-natured grin at her teasing, though he didn't bother to hide the eye-roll and the way he shook his head as they stepped forward towards the truck. "Probably green eggs and lies, to tell you the truth." Pete rolled his sleeves up one at a time and loosened his tie; work attire certainly wasn't conducive to the hot June sun. He grinned at his own poor joke.
Rose gave a full on smile at the rebuttal he threw back her way. “The truth? Yanno, I’m thinkin’ they don’t have that on the menu,” She tapped a finger on her chin as if it actually required even a mote of thought. “But I bet they would make an exception just for you, McDreamy.”
"Hey, maybe they will." Pete's grin broadened at the way she volleyed the conversation right back to him; he'd always enjoyed their give-and-take. "Although secrets fries sound pretty good, too. What about you, though? Speaking of special orders, I hear they'll make a holier-than-thou burger if you ask real nice."
Fluttering her lashes she turned to look at the board. “Holier-than-thou burger?! Well..seeing as I can’t mind my manners I’ll just have to settle for self-righteous cheeseburger.” Protruding her bottom lip in an exaggerated pout she looked back up at him. “But at least it doesn’t have lies.”
"Guess so." The shift of energy around them was almost palpable, and the effect it had on the blonde obvious as her features softened. Pete sort of, kind of felt bad about the lying, too. Well, more than sort of, considering how whenever they'd talked about the mess that was the Hellhounds in their city, she'd seemed as though she were better able to better understand their perspective than he'd been. Still, shit had been so fraught back then; the risk of involving a bigger group had seemed too big. "What if I told you I was going on a lies diet?"
Giving him a lopsided smile Rose reached out, one arm resting on his as the other came to pat his stomach. “Well, then I guess I would say I can definitely tell you’ve lost some weight.” The smile broadened, her nose crinkling in the way it did when she was truly amused or happy. “I would also say we should get the cheesiest burger available to compensate, but not too much. We have standards to uphold.” Lifting her chin in a mock display of the haughty debutante that was her mother she gestured towards the counter. “Deal?”
"Hell yeah." He held his hand out to her, intent on shaking to seal said deal. Happy to oblige the officiality Rose met him halfway, giving her best bro-grip in the process. "Policemen may be especially into donuts, but I don't think these guys have ever seen doctors go to town on anything bad for you. We better show them how we do it." And just his luck, the people manning the truck were happy to customize his burger with a little extra bacon grease and cheese. God, Pete was looking forward to this.
“I feel like there’s a double..maybe triple entendre in there somewhere,” the left side of her mouth dimpled as she thought about it for about three whole seconds. “but my mind is too busy thinking about cheese to look into it.”
"That's fair." Once they'd ordered, he gestured towards a spare set of chairs, keeping an eye out for his friends at the LBJ all the while just in case. "What do you make of all this?" He asked Rose then, once he'd sat down. "Never thought I'd see something like this again."
