Kaegan; Open
He hadn’t had a fresh burger in—he squinted upward as if he’d find the answer written in the sky —a long time, he deduced with a shrug. But even so, Kaegan simply could not let an opportunity to have green eggs and ham pass him by. He grinned when Violet presented his order, and thanked both she and Ryan—maybe a bit too loudly but he wanted to make sure Ryan heard him from where he was hiding—and meandered toward a sliver of shade.
Kaegan deconstructed and reassembled the sandwich before taking a bite, and voiced his approval as the basil burst sweet and fragrant across his tongue. He tried to take his time, his mother’s voice tugging at his memory; chiding him for eating too quickly and not savoring his food. He chewed at a slower pace and observed the passers-by moseying around, swaying from one foot to the other as his portion dwindled into crumbs.
