Waiting On The Weather Who: Luc Flores and Nick Choi When: Morning of 6/5 Where: The closest government outpost to the LBJ What: Nick and Luc set a good example and head out to get their brand spanking new government-issued ID's. Antics and brotherly bonding may or may not occur.
Oh, I’m still living At the old address And I’m waiting on the weather That I know will pass
I know that it’s true It’s gonna be a good year Out of the darkness And into the fire...
The closest government outpost to the LBJ hadn't been too far a trek for Luc and Nick but, by the looks of it, getting out early to beat the rush had been everyone else's bright idea as well. If the other outposts were just as busy as this one, it seemed like most of Austin was anxious to get a head start on living their new lives.
There had never been much of a question for Luc on whether or not to register but that didn't mean the decision had been hastily made. On the contrary, he had taken into account all he knew about what had transpired since the LBJ became a shelter and what could happen now that the government had finally stepped in. Everything had been totaled, calculated, assessed and laid next to one another and, despite everything, Luc knew registering early on was the right move for him. But was it the right place? They now knew that there were other places like Austin, cities that were thriving and surviving a hell of a lot better than they'd been doing under Olinger's dictatorship. Even though he'd been unseated, deposed, and replaced by someone Luc knew to be an upstanding pillar of the community, whose to say Luc wouldn't do better in Salt Lake City, St. Louis, or Denver? For someone who had always been keen to pack up and ship out, he felt a hesitance and responsibility to Austin, to his friends, and the LBJ for as long as it was standing. Always one to trust his gut, Luc knew he was exactly where he ought to be.
"Reckon we could get some of those 'cut the line' passes and come back later?" Luc asked, looking over his paperwork again, scanning for errors. The line to get their photo taken was going at a snail's pace but at least they were closer to the front of the line now than the back. "I mean, if it's good enough for Disneyland it should be good enough for the government. Am I right?"
Luc looked to Nick, not bothering to mask the expression of good-natured exasperation and impatience. Nick had been his trusted friend and fellow cabinet member for a few years now. Luc wasn't sure how or if the LBJ would continue as a shelter but if Luc knew one thing, it was that he and Nick would be buddies and brothers no matter where they lived or what they did.
