The party had been a nice escape, something Kitty hadn’t even realized she had needed until she’d been inside the Kulseth’s apartment for a short time. While she hadn’t known anyone besides Nina, she had quickly learned names and faces and found that some of the other party goers really were people she might want to get to know better. Shortly after the kiddie pool had come out, Kitty knew it was getting about time for her to head home. If only because she had drank enough that after some cajoling from a party goer who’s name was escaping her at the moment, Kitty herself had waded into the pool in nothing but her underwear. A fact the young woman wasn’t going to think about, the idea of a room full of people she didn’t know having seen her stripped down to nothing but her underwear was both a tad overwhelming and embarrassing, so it was much safer for her sanity if she avoided that thought.
It was a stroke of luck that just when Kitty had realized she should head home before giving the party goers anymore of a show, it would seem both Nina and Dani -- whom she had just met earlier in said kiddie pool -- were also taking their leave from the party. While she would probably later deny having leapt so quickly at the opportunity to walk home with Nina -- of course citing the amount of wine she had drank as the reason for her hasty reply of “I’d love to,”, the truth was that the alcohol had simply lowered her inhibitions in regards to being so obvious about enjoying the other woman’s company.
As fun as the party had been, as drunk as Nina really was, she still had the presence of mind to realize that if she'd willingly taken her skirt off and sat down in a kiddie pool that someone had set up in a living room, she -- and Dani, who was staying with her that evening -- likely needed to drink as much water as she could and then get to bed. It was time to make a somewhat graceful exit.
Nina's apartment was closest, so they stopped there first to drop Dani off before she walked Kitty to her apartment. Dani gave her a sort of sideways smile before the door closed, an expression that must have had some sort of clue to it; she filed it away to ponder later as the two of them navigated the Capitol hallways.
The whole walk from the Kulseth’s to Nina’s, Kitty had wanted to ask if Nina and Dani were just friends. Though each time she formulated the question in her mind even she knew it sounded a tad on the prying side and anyway they were dropping Dani off at Nina’s apartment, that combined with the evening’s earlier kiddie pool event had Kitty assuming that the two woman must be more to each other than just friends and thus left her no reason to actually question it. Thankfully she wasn’t left to dwell on how she felt about that for long, because soon Nina’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts.
"That was quite the party," Nina remarked. She'd been saying variations on this for the last couple of minutes as she made her exit, thanking Joel and Mariah for their hospitality and even commending Jane for her support of the concept in general. It turned out to be just the thing she'd needed; it already felt easier to think. Then again, perhaps that was just the alcohol dulling her mental capacity for sophisticated thought. It was hard to tell, sometimes. "Even if I don't think I can feel my feet anymore."
Demi would be proud of her, she thought briefly, considering how she'd spent some of her time at the party in a state of undress in a kiddie pool with Dani and, eventually, Kitty once she'd come into the pool as well.
