Joel and Kitty - 7:45PM
There was a beat where Kitty felt guilty for even mentioning anything about the poor behavior displayed in Joel’s department. Tonight was supposed to be about enjoying a party, not shining a spotlight on areas in which the APD has become a little lax. “Thank you, I shouldn’t have pulled you into work stuff while we’re at a party,” Kitty replied with a mix of an appreciative and apologetic smile. “I’m not sure I’ve met officer Rusten yet,” she added, gaze shifting around the room as if she could have identified the officer in question.
Not wanting to drag Joel deeper into work discussion, Kitty thought a save change of topic might be to figure out how it was he came to be in Austin. Because if his accent (or lack thereof) was any hint, lieutenant Kulseth was not a local. “So were you in Austin before all of this happened?” she didn’t specify what ‘this’ was, most people knew without requiring explanation. “And do you have family here beyond your wife and daughter?”
