Joel and Kitty - 7:45PM
Joel smiled, just a crack of his mouth that could be missed for something else if a person wasn’t paying attention. “You ever want that laugh, I’d be more than happy to do it,” he replied seriously. Kitty did a lot to ease his concern, but even then years of protective nature were rarely quieted completely by a few words from a very young mother.
“You’re working within the Department of Resources?” he asked, changing the subject because even he knew that he couldn’t keep sounding polite if he kept grilling her about her ex-boyfriend. There were limits to what most people found to be acceptable, and he really didn’t know her well enough to continue that vein. “They’re treating you okay?” Even some of the APD officers got it in their heads that they were a boys club, so he doubted that the DoR worked much differently in that respect, even if they had more women in their ranks. Kitty being very young and pretty was at a disadvantage, he thought.
