Joel and Kitty - 7:45PM
Joel called on years of cop experience to keep his face neutral at the information that there was some other girl there watching his kid. “Mariah helpfully left out the part about a girlfriend,” he admitted. “Probably wanted to save the kid from the full interrogation.” Because his wife knew him and his tendencies well, and while he tried to steer clear of overt protectiveness with Ahna and Mina, Kaisha was still small enough for him to get away with it. But as the older two could attest to, they’d seen the same kind of treatment before they grew up.
“I intimidate people,” he added with a shrug, like he wasn’t completely aware of it. He was, he usually used it to his advantage, and he definitely would have if he’d been given the chance to meet Zach and shake the kids hand. “Guess I can’t be too concerned if you’re leaving your kids with him, though.” Kitty gave the impression she had a good head on her shoulders. “It’s just the habits that die hard.”
