Joel and Kitty - 7:45PM (omg a week later, I'm so sorry!)
Admittedly Kitty had only come because of Nina’s invite, or because of Nina, but she was not looking at that second one too closely. Not because she was afraid of what she might figure out, but because her track record was kind of abysmal when it came to relationships and she couldn't picture confronting whatever it was she might be feeling and then losing the other woman’s friendship because of it. So, she would happily delude herself into believing she came simply because of Nina’s invite and for no other reason.
It didn’t escape Nina’s notice that she was most definitely the youngest face in the room and for a nanosecond she wished she hadn’t volunteered Zach for kid duty. At least if he had come -- and had brought his new girlfriend -- she would have people nearer her own age. Kitty knew she could talk to Nina without problem, but that was because the lawyer never seemed to see her as young. Would the rest of the the party goers treat her the same?
A few faces were familiar, people Kitty and likely come across since beginning her work at the DoR, but the blonde couldn’t put names to faces. She did clearly recognize the man waving her over though and on instinct Kitty straightened up as she moved towards him, letting years of attending function after function with her parents kick in. “Please, call me Kitty,” she began once she had reached Joel. “And yes, so far I am having a good time. I have to admit the bar I set for a good time is likely lower than most, two kids don’t exactly allow for a lot of social gatherings,” Kitty was aware that it was likely Joel already knew she had children, since his own daughter was playing alongside them as they spoke. “Thank you for opening your home up like this, I can’t speak for everyone, but I for one appreciate it.”
