Nora was all ready to stand up and leave when Josh told her that he had to get going to do physicals for kids (really? Is this guy seriously just Superman or something?), but when he encouraged her to stay, she felt herself settling back down into the booth. She hadn't expected the kind offer, and usually, she wouldn't take it, but for some reason, Nora felt like she could. She felt like she was safe here, and she felt like Josh was a nice guy who would genuinely look out for her. Nora insisted she didn't need anyone, but if he was offering a place for her to spend some time alone, she was going to take it. Because all of these people everywhere was so overwhelming. Nora didn't often feel overwhelmed, but after spending almost a year by herself, it was natural to feel a little weird being around so many people all at once.
"Thanks," she said genuinely, a surprised look finding its way onto her face. "That's really nice of you." She smiled at him as he walked out the door, wondering what the hell just happened and how she'd come across someone so normal from her past. Maybe not normal. Maybe more like Superman, but Nora could definitely see herself becoming okay with that.
