Josh tried to think of a movie he knew Saul Bass had worked on without informing Nora that no, he had absolutely no idea who that was when he couldn't come up with a film title. But he just went along with it, anyway, nodding like he knew exactly what Nora was talking about, because her whole face just lit up when she mentioned this guy, and Josh didn't want to take that away from her. Even without a film to reference, though, he could piece together what Nora had been studying, just without a example to visualize. "Don't apologize," Josh shook his head quickly. "I might not totally know what you're talking about, but it sounds really cool," he said earnestly. And it did. He'd have to brush up on his film history a bit, but Josh didn't mind listening to her analyses at all. Clearly it was something that Nora cared very much about, and that in itself made Josh want to listen.
"This is true," Josh agreed, and found himself especially grateful that that had not been the case after all. He made a face at Nora when she started teasing him about his patronage at the diner. "I was such a difficult customer, I know. How ever did you manage to put up with me when I only gave you a tip that cost more than my coffee did. Oh, the humanity," Josh ended dryly, and sighed for effect. He took a sip of water and then just stared at Nora, determined to make her admit that he wasn't a terrible customer, after all. Even if she was only teasing.
"Oh, well, I, uh, I've always loved cars. I worked in my uncle's garage since I was like, twelve, I guess, and it just really grew on me. I liked taking them apart and finding the problem, putting them back together, being able to get her good as new again." Josh rambled, and ate another chip to stop himself. "But, uh, unfortunately, my scholarship only applied if I went with as a science major. I was good with cars, though. Probably could have taken over the garage if I'd stayed in Queens." He glanced down at the salsa wistfully, but didn't stay down for long. "Instead of a car doctor, now I'm a people doctor. So it's kind of similar, just different patients," Josh joked lamely.
