"Yeah, me either," he lifted one shoulder in a shrug, and then that was the end of that. They were going to have a less depressing conversation starting now. Josh made a face when Nora decided to reveal she had been a waitress at a diner; his diner, the one he always went to before a big exam or just needed a milkshake at one in the morning. And sometimes Nora would be his waitress. Even though they wouldn't talk very much. Not like they were right now.
Josh considered her next statement, and studied Nora with this new information in mind. "I can see it," he nodded. Film major made a lot of sense for her, and he imagined it was even more obvious when they could wear clothes that weren't covered in dust, grime, and had gone through a washing machine less than a year ago. She had an air about her. Something artsy, something intelligent, something potentially pretentious, but then, med school was even more pretentious than film the way some of his classmates went about it. "What was your thesis on, specifically?" He asked curiously.
When Nora mentioned her siblings, Josh could see the distress flash behind her eyes, and instinctively grabbed her hand this time. "I don't know if mine are, either. I haven't heard from Dom - my brother - or Lucia - my sister - in months. I miss them." Josh sighed quietly. "Dom was the one who convinced me to accept the scholarship from the University of Texas. I was really close to not going, believe it or not. I never wanted to be a doctor, and look at me now," he shook his head at the irony of it, because it really was kind of funny.
