Whoever this was, he couldn't possibly be happy with her. She'd just made a terrible impression, barging in like that and hearing him swear as soon as she'd slammed the door behind her. Nora was a little too preoccupied and panicked to pay attention to anything other than the fact that she almost just died, and she only very narrowly escaped. Hadn't she come to the Dog Park to avoid dying? Why was this so hard?
"Nora," she heard a voice say slowly, uncomprehendingly. Nora's head snapped up, and she felt her mouth drop open. She knew him. She knew this boy. Not from the Dog Park - she barely knew anyone from the Dog Park yet - but she knew him. He came into the diner all the time. He would come in and study and drink coffee and sometimes, she would give him free donuts because she'd seen him at school before. He usually drank his coffee black, and he always tipped well. His name - his name was Josh. "Josh?" she asked, almost hollowly. Seeing him was like going back to a completely different life.
"Yeah, I'm alive. You're alive." She looked down, and added matter-of-factly, "And you're bleeding."
Nora probably looked completely ridiculous, just staring at this boy with her mouth open. "What are you - doing here?"
