Cherry and Demi - after Cherry's scene with Max
Who knew what hour it even was at this point, Demi had long since lost track and had allowed herself to just get caught up in the revelry without worrying about when her head should hit the pillow. Tonight was not about worrying or focusing on anything other than this moment, on two people's happiness and the fact that even if the world might very well be ending, tonight they were just people enjoying the festivities that came along with a wedding. Admittedly all of this brought up questions she hadn’t even been aware had been brewing inside of her, questions about her own future with Isaac, about marriage and commitment and whether that was what he wanted - or if he would forever be content to remain boyfriend and girlfriend for the rest of their days.
Now was not the time to be thinking about this, not when there was a celebration to enjoy. Of course she could sneak away to her trailer and call Isaac up and ask him now. But she was reminded of another phone call she had had to make, one that had felt so important and had also felt so wrong to be happening over the phone and not face to face. Demi was done discussing important topics over the phone and soon enough she wouldn’t have to.
Because soon enough the Dog Park wouldn’t be her home any longer. Another thought that weighed heavily on her mind and one she had fought all night to shove away. Which was exactly what she was doing as she made her way to a more secluded part of the party, spotting an open lawn chair and dropping herself into it before glancing at the woman who occupied the one next to her.
Demi’s eyes went wide and for a moment she thought about getting up. She and Cherry had never been the closest of friends. Most would not have even categorized them as friends. What stopped her was the way the other woman looked, as if she were a thousand miles away in thought and wrestling with something. “Mind if I join you?” Demi finally broke the silence and giving Cherry and opening to chase her off if the woman wanted to be alone.
"No, I don't." Even without looking over, Cherry had recognized Demi's voice instantly, despite the time the other woman had spent away from the Dog Park and the fact that they'd never saw eye to eye. All the old spats between them had been borne out of competition for men and desperation to keep her place. Things were different, now, and Demi's new man was only the half of it.
She'd been deliciously tipsy -- even drunk -- only a couple of minutes ago, but with Max's rejection fresh in her mind Cherry had been shocked into sobriety. She leaned back into her chair, tilting her head up at the stars above them and the still-roaring party just a couple of feet away, and sighed. "What's up, Demi?"
