Max was so happy. The ceremony had gone off without a hitch (he had only had to stop and collect himself four or five times) and now two of his best friends were married to each other. He had eaten some good food, indulged in celebratory spirits and he was now dancing with one of his favorite gals. It really couldn't get much better than this.
"Love this song!" Max agreed, putting a hand lightly on Cherry's waist. For a bigger guy, he was surprisingly light on his feet. Despite whatever shortcomings he had in the looks department, he'd always been a pretty good dancer. He looked over Cherry's shoulder to Vic and Marina. They looked so blissful and in love.
"I can't wait to get married," Max said wistfully, twirling Cherry and bringing her in close again. "Getting to share you life with your best friend, having a whole mess of kids, growing old together." He sighed, internally calculating how that ideal seemed to be getting further and further away from him.
"Do you ever think about getting hitched?" Max asked, looking at his friend's pretty, smiling face. If anyone deserved a good and loyal partner, it was Cherry.
