"That's what I'd like to know," Lita said upon entering the exam room. Her voice did not echo any of the warmth and delicacy she had heard Sol use. "But that's none of my business, I'm guessing?"
Lita nodded to her shelter leader and offered him a small, commiserative smile.
"Hey there, Sol," she said with genuine affection. Sol was a great shelter leader and an even better man and Lita had nothing but the utmost respect for him. Lita's tendency to stray from what was considered lawful these days had absolutely no bearing on Sol and how he ran the UMCB. No, that was all Lita's own skewed moral compass...something it looked like she shared with his sister and former friend.
Looking at Torrie made Lita realize just how much she had missed her. They had been so close, once. After she left, Lita hadn't had a close confidant in the whole building (unless Lita counted Pete, which she sure as hell did not). Torrie looked like hammered shit, which only made Lita more sad and angry. Why did she insist on being this way? It was as infuriating as it was upsetting...which is exactly what she imagined Torrie thought about her.
"Do you feel better or worse than you look?" Lita asked, approaching her patient.
