Pete laughs at the assumption, unbothered or offended. He's used to that reaction by now, having heard it upwards of a hundred times a year. Even Teagan had asked him about it during their first session together. "It ended up being a pretty even split among the different areas when I graduated, I think, but it felt like when we were choosing most people wanted the glamorous things. I guess I always wanted to make sure if I was working with someone, it's for something they're excited about. Most of the time when someone's having a baby it's a situation where they're happy and they're looking forward to their doctor's visits. It's not something they're dreading." He looks up and smiles. "It's cool being part of that."
He pauses as he takes the photo album from her, holding it out at arm's length so he can begin to browse the pages. Pete's not entirely up to date on what to look at when you're appraising a tattoo artist's work, but he can tell from the designs that she's got an eye for art. It's an entirely different kind of discipline compared to what he ended up focusing on for his career, a totally different world than what he's used to at the hospital. It's a nice change of pace. "These are really good," he says, flipping to the next page. "Makes me feel like I could use more ink."
