The sleep was much needed and in the warmth and safety of Rodeo’s trailer she did just that. It was probably a few hours that her body submitted to the wave of exhaustion that came on after everything was said and finally her guilt was expelled. Sarge had gone to share the news to the others. Addie too had gone to take care of more business that had been churned up by this rat business. When they were gone she had fought sleep for a few minutes before she finally passed out to Hank Williams playing in the background.
The dreams she had were nothing comforting though. There were ghouls and that wet darkness that had pervaded her every moment since she had been dispelled from the life she loved, the people she held dearest. She couldn’t have been aware of how much she twisted with nightmares or the sounds of distress she cried out while she slumbered. There were her babies and blood and when she startled awake she thought she was in the middle of a lake of it at first. “No!” she cried out, her hands instinctively going to her stomach to make sure and when she felt the growing bump that had been a constant companion these past few months she breathed a sigh of relief.
That wasn’t the only comfort she was granted though. In the trailer he was there too and she was only certain that she wanted him there, needed him closer.
“Bishop…?” her voice sputtered, not enough moisture and her throat so tight from the hand marks Sonny had left in his wake, before she blew a hole in him. She wasn’t even sure where…she hadn’t looked back. She’d just come home. It was hard for her to see through her swollen eyes but she had a sense of him, his breathing…even months apart she knew.
