Isaac had played his part as he entered La Quinta, doing exactly as Addie had instructed him (not that being worried about Demi had been an act in the slightest), and then he was in. Following the CO, Isaac was led to a part of La Quinta that he’d never been to before. He didn’t suppose a secret (and likely in Olinger’s eyes, illegal) meeting like this could take place in the regular interrogation rooms. Once they’d reached their final destination, the door was unlocked and Isaac was pushed inside. “Demi--” Isaac breathed out, his eyes barely landed on her before his long legs already crossing the room in just a few steps. And then his arms were around her, pulling her into a crushing hug. A whole series of thoughts filtered through Demi’s mind as the CO had brought her to the small secluded room. Most of which lead to things she didn’t want to think about, things that to this day still gave her nightmares. So when she was shoved into the room and left there, Demi couldn’t help but allow the panic to begin to rise up inside of her, her eyes searching the space for anything she could use as a weapon for when the CO returned...and she knew he would return. By the time she heard the noise of the handle being turned and the hinges moving as the door opened and a body was shoved inside, Demi was a shaking wreck, body trembling and heart racing like a jackrabbit. It took her mind a moment to catch up to what her eyes were seeing, but it wasn’t until Isaac spoke her name, and his arms were around her in a crushing hug that she felt her heart rate begin to slow. It was as if she melted into him, her own arms wrapping around him,and her hands grasping onto and punching up the fabric of his shirt a she clung to him. “How?” She murmured, the word muffled by the way she had her face pressed against Isaac’s shoulder. “You said you wouldn’t be able to do anything?” Demi winced as she shifted to look up at Isaac, the bruises and sore muscles she acquired from the day before and her struggle all protesting as she moved. In the dim light a bruise across her cheek was visible, as well as the split lip that had come along with the backhanded slap she had received for mouthing off to Burr as he shoved her into the SUV that brought her back to this hellhole. “I didn’t do anything, God Isaac, you have to know I didn’t do anything to deserve being back here.” Her words come out almost like a plea, she needs him to know that despite the things she kept from him before, she was being honest now. Isaac reluctantly pulled back from the hug, moving a hand up to cup her face, anger rising in him as he looked at the bruise that was forming on her cheek. “I know, baby. I--I don’t have a lot of time, okay? I contacted Addie and they have a plan. I only know rough details but there’s going to be a distraction tomorrow. The Officers were released back into gen pop so you’ll need to get to the men’s yard during the distraction. Once you’re all together you need to lead them to the East door on the first floor. Someone will be there waiting for you to get you away from this place. Got it?” He asked, waiting for a nod of understanding, before asking, “What time will you be in the yard tomorrow? When you’re out there, that’s when they’ll act.” He felt like such a hypocrite, conspiring with Addie to break Demi out when just weeks ago he’d been so angry at her escape and the fact that Demi knew it was going to happen. But a lot had changed in the past few weeks. His definition of justice and doing the right thing no longer matched his employers so now he had to do this. It didn’t matter anyway, so long as Demi got out. He couldn’t do anything to save her himself, but getting this information back to Addie would be enough. Demi closed her eyes and leaned into Isaac’s hand on her cheek, relief flooding over her when he spoke, confirming that he knew she hadn't done anything, that she was in fact in this place for no other reason than her affiliation with the Hellhounds. Her relief was quickly exchanged for shock as Isaac continued to speak, her dark eyes flying open and meeting his as he laid out the details of the plan Adelaide (and likely Noa and Rome) had come up with. “You did that? You contacted Addie just to help me?” Demi knew what that must have taken for him, knew that it couldn't have been easy for him to take part in being the message bearer, knowing full well that men he despised would be released in the jailbreak along with her. “My yard time is noon, unless they change something tomorrow.” Which could very well happen, but she hoped with every fiber of her being that it didn't -- she didn't want to spend another day inside of this place and away from Isaac. And the realization hit her just then that she absolutely, without any flicker of doubt, loved the man standing before her. She had said it once to him, but she hadn't been prepared to own it entirely, adding a “I think” of her own benefit or comfort, but now Demi knew, she just knew that she was ready to own those feelings. “God, I love you,” she breathed out, standing on tiptoe to impulsively press her lips to his. They didn't have much time, Isaac had said as much -- but she couldn't hold those words inside of her any longer. Isaac didn’t resist against her lips pressing against his own and his arm wrapped around her pulled her in even tighter. He was a fucking idiot if it took her going back into La Quinta for him to realize his feelings and for him to push away all the anger and resentment he’d felt towards her, but he couldn’t get back any of that time. All he had was right now and he planned on taking advantage of it. Eventually he pulled back, his breath ragged, and rested his forehead against hers. “I love you, too,” he said, pausing and smirking before adding, “I think.” By the time they broke apart Demi was breathless and she was steadying herself by leaning into Isaac. She hated that it had taken an extreme event like this for them to mend the cracks in their relationship. But what she hated even more was that eventually she would be removed from the tiny room they stood in and shoved back out into gen pop, while Isaac would make the trip back to the apartment they had both once called home. “You think?” Demi quirked an eyebrow, pulling back only far enough to level a serious expression at him. “Isaac Callahan, if I wasn’t so happy with you right now I would smack you.” She remarked, leaning back in to press a quick kiss to the corner of his mouth. “Is everything you just told me all you know about their plan?” He wished they could stay in this moment forever and forget about the fact that they were in La Quinta and he was conspiring with the Hellhounds to help break out prisoners… but just as soon as the moment had started, it was over. “No, I don’t know anything else. Don’t think it was safe for me to. Just be ready tomorrow, okay?” Isaac said, reaching up and pushing some hair off her forehead before kissing it. “I--I should probably go before someone realizes you’re gone.” Sighing softly, Demi closed her eyes and leaned back into Isaac after he kissed her forehead, resisting her head against his shoulder. “You know I will be,” she replied, her words muffled by the way she had her head. “I don’t want to go back in there…” Demi lifted her head to look up at Isaac, real fear flashing in her dark eyes. “But I have to.” She continued, the vulnerability she had shown moments before replaced with the stubborn understanding that she had a job to do now, and that job required her going back to the very place she didn't want to be. “Just, please stay safe,” Demi stood on her tiptoes again and pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth, knowing if she did anything more she ran the risk of not letting him leave this room or her. “I will,” Isaac promised, resisting the urge to pull Demi close and never let her go. Their time was up, though, as the CO that had brought Isaac in banged on the door, signaling that he needed to leave. Not knowing the next time he would see her, he bent down for one last kiss, whispering, “I love you,” before pulling back and retreating from the room. “I love you too,” Demi murmured before Isaac pulled away and slipped out of the room. She watched his retreating back and fought against every part of her that wanted to chase after every him, grab hold and never let go. When the CO came back into the room to drag her back to gen pop, her expression was stoney, determined not to let them see how scared she truly was. Come tomorrow she would be free and La Quinta would just be a bitter memory. |
