Kenzie nodded when he told her how he had happened upon the camp. He wasn't the first to be invited in and he certainly wouldn't be the last. Like a real dog pack, they took in the strays every so often, though whether the strays would stick around was a different matter. Most seemed to stay since the walls of the camp were better than the vulnerability of the rest of the world these days but there were a few that just passed on through.
"You have a place to stay in the camp?" Her trailer wasn't much but it could fit another if he needed a place. With a sick and crying baby though, she wouldn't blame him if he said no. "The couch over there is pretty comfy." She shrugged and stroked Liam's back as the baby still continued to grill the intruder.
Kenzie sized Marcus up when he said that he was a nurse. Her face never betrayed her thoughts as her own guilt mentally washed over her. He was a good man for advertising his skills; she couldn't say the same for herself. Before she could let her thoughts get too far ahead of herself though, so she smiled softly. "I'm sure the guys will give you shit for that. But they could use a few more skilled medical hands in the camp."
She watched Marcus as he got down to look at Liam. At first, Liam looked up at Kenzie after making eye contact and then back at Marcus, hesitating over whether to trust the new guy or not. One hand that Liam had wrapped around Mac's neck reached out slowly towards Marcus until it connected with a hanful of hair. Curious little fingers worked their way through the silky strands that were so foreign. When Liam looked back and Kenzie to see if it was okay that he was touching Marcus's hair, she reached over and pried his fingers from around the tuft and pulled Liam's hand in, kissing it.
"I wish," she answered truthfully, trying to hold on to Liam as he started squirming around on her lap, trying to get comfortable again. She made a mental note to ask the boys to search for some to have on hand, even if they were the Tempa-dot disposable types. Liam briefly looked over at Marcus as they started talking and then buried his head back in Kenzie's chest. "He's never so fussy though and he hasn't screamed like he did before since the day he was born. I figured he was such a pain the past few days because he's been locked up inside like the rest of us but I guess not. He's hungry but he didn't want to nurse for very long; he started having a fit last time he tried cause it hurts." Kenzie sighed after she told Marcus what she could think of, carefully omitting that she had any knowledge of the hallmark signs and symptoms of an ear infection in a kid without testing for it. In times like this, she wished that she hadn't been such a coward in sharing her medical knowledge with the camp, but she had made her bed and now she needed to sleep in it. At least she knew well enough to stop Marcus if he tried to offer a treatment to her son that she wouldn't prescribe herself. For now though, she just looked at him, trying to see if he would piece the puzzle together with the clues she had given him.
