Lita never paid much attention to nerd movies but even she could pick up the allusion Sarge was putting down.
"So...under 'status' I should write Luke warm, then," Lita deadpans, miming scribbles on his paperwork. She's impressed he's even up for talking at all the day after such a significant abdominal injury; lesser men would be screaming or begging for drugs or passed out for days. She's not sure whether she can chalk up the right hand man's optimistic recovery to her surgical skills or Sarge's sheer stubborn determination. Whatever the cause, if he thinks staying conscious for an extended amount of time was enough to get him an early release out of the infirmary, he is sadly mistaken.
"Unless you're okay with all your insides being on the outside," Lita says with no small amount of derision. "...then no. And even if you are, I'm not okay with it. Besides, you won't be doing your brothers any favors if they have to carry your comatose ass out of here. So, you're going to be stuck here for a few days."
Lita recognizes Sarge is making an effort, pressing her for information about what was happening outside the fortified walls of La Quinta. Her expression softens.
"Capitol released a statement about having the officers in custody," Lita replies, checking the reading on all the bleeping machines hooked up to her patient. "But went radio silent after that. The camp is holding up as best they can...not that I can tell much from where I'm standing." Lita doesn't know much about Sarge. She knows where he's from, what he sounds like, and who his family is. So maybe when he's asking how things were outside, he's not asking about the mood of the town and camp. Maybe he's asking about something, or someone, else.
"I was a bit cagey on the details when I told Adelaide of your injury," Lita admits, hazarding a glance at the man's face. She can't determine if it's what he's looking to hear but she continues. "...but she knows you're going to be okay. I'm sure she's passed it along to the rest of the compound, if that's what you're worried about."
