Lita felt slightly better knowing that even though their movements were being scrutinized they could speak fairly candidly without fear of being overheard. Even so, it took a lot of poise and self-control to maintain a straight face as Demi explained how she came to be in her current situation. When Adelaide mentioned Demi was in with the Hellhounds somehow, Lita started putting together the bits and pieces of her friend's backstory to come to a similar conclusion to what Demi had only just relayed to Lita. Still, it was something wholly other to hear it confirmed and then taking to the nth degree. A congressman? It was heavy, exceedingly so, and Lita put a few pregnant moments of pause between Demi's confession and her own response.
"You don't do anything half-assed, do you?" Lita asked with a rueful shake of her head. Her tone incredulous but tinged with slight admiration. She was careful to keep her face neutral though, turning her attention to the papers in front of her. "Wish you would have told me you were housebound, especially because of your jaunt out to the LBJ. That's something friends tell each other, you know."
Lita's wish that Demi let her know about her most recent setback was out of concern for her friend and certainly wasn't intended to make Demi feel any guilt whatsoever. Hopefully Demi would keep that in mind when she Lita came clean about her own dealings with the Hellhounds.
"Start doing your exercises," Lita said, standing. She went and stood by Demi so it would be easier to speak quietly while maintaining the guise of training. "We should probably make this look legit, especially considering what I'm going to tell you. There's no easy way to say it, so I'm just gonna rip it off like a band-aid. The officers are alive."
Lita chanced a quick look at Demi but quickly turned her attention away, trying not to let any sort of emotion cross her face.
"I mean, if we're going to talk about 'keeping important information from friends,' I should probably own up to doing the same."
