"I killed men." He told her, still not believing it himself. Not infected men. He hadn't even killed when he'd been robbed on the road. He'd just allowed them to take what they needed and got on with replenishing his supply. The realization that Bode was now Bishop and maybe not the man that had left him in Harlan was something he was grappling with. "I killed men getting Adelaide." it had felt necessary then. As if he was going up against a Tyrant that kept women and children locked in a cell for no other reason than the blood in her veins.
He believed Rodeo's story, about finding the Prax, believed that what he felt now was something he felt in his heart but he also believed that Rodeo was a wolf in a sheep's pelt too. He had dealt drugs to innocent people, had gotten them addicted to something dangerously devilish for a few cans of beans and to strike down a nemesis. Damn it. He wish he had asked him more about Sister Slaughter but now, looking back...has Rodeo lead the questions. Had Nate been so grateful and blinded by his brand of charm. Competition for what though? The Dog Park had water. Now they had Cows and Chickens, plans for a greenhouse, plans within plans.
Were they in so deep that they really couldn't get their heads above water.
As always, Bunny's council is perfect. She's concise, always getting through the blasted head thoughts and right to the heart.
Bode trusts Rodeo. These are the people he loves. That he fights for. That he would die for.
"Willa seems tae think he's gotten what he deserved." She'd know he meant Bode. That's the only part of this equation that won't ever change. "I don't think he has." His hand tightens around hers. He's concerned for their future too. Bunny's happiness means the most to him. Her safety is paramount. Now he's here having been shot up and he knows he's the luckiest son of a bitch in the camp right now...
