a luckenbach thanksgiving
WHO: Travelers & townspeople
WHERE: Luckenbach, TX
WHAT: The kettle boils over.
WHEN: Backdated to November 8th & 9th (Thanksgiving)
NOVEMBER 8: Erik’s repairs continue on the mysteriously-ruined vehicles, having to bargain and negotiate for parts each step of the way. It does look like sabotage—when word of this gets out, some of the townspeople mutter that perhaps the Austinites broke their own engines to stay longer and lean on Luckenbach’s hospitality. It’s starting to become evident that despite the hospitable welcome, some of the townspeople would rather that the visitors just leave already, or never shown up in the first place.
Finally, through a mix of trading supplies, offering labour, and especially Pete’s medical expertise, Luckenbach agrees to scavenge some of the required parts. The vehicles are repaired on November 8, ready for departure.
But when they discuss leaving now, Kit and Annie strongly advise against it. If anyone puts up a fuss [VOLUNTEER?], they’re rather firmly denied: lockdown is in effect and it simply isn’t safe to leave at night. Plus, Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Wouldn’t you like to stay for dinner?
(They may begin to suspect that the ‘lockdown’ isn’t just a one-night thing, at least until the Luckenbach leadership can make up their mind what to do with the visitors...)

NOVEMBER 9: The morning, at least, is abuzz with excitement for the holiday. The dining hall on the 9th has been transformed into an even cheerier scene than before, and by the time night falls, there’s a feast waiting for them. The food is good—much better than anything the Austinites are used to.
During dessert, however, an argument erupts between Logan Sawyer and [VOLUNTEER?] about letting them leave. Logan is convinced that the Austinites will bring back an entire population of starved scavengers.
Right when it seems like the scuffle might come to blows, an alarm sounds. Some of the guards had snuck off to get extra pie, and the perimeter has been breached by a of runners and crawlers. The shufflers aren’t far behind.
Maybe it’s leftovers from the Johnson City chase; maybe the zombies were drawn by the commotion of so many more living bodies added; maybe it’s just bad luck.
Either way, the wall is breached and the town is about to be overrun. In the chaos, the locals go for their guns to repel this infestation. Do you stay and help? Or do you want to grab the cars and make a break for it?
