Demi x Isaac - Hours into the event
There’s a rolling of her eyes at Isaac’s question, primarily because of course he wouldn’t notice that his secretary basically undresses him with her eyes. “Sweetheart, remember I told you this already, it was the same day I came by your office and we spent some quality time with your office door locked.” She knew that he would remember what day she was talking about, after all it wasn’t like she stopped by often for a quickie in the middle of the day in his office. His compliment makes her heart flutter a little, gives her a sliver of hope that maybe they aren’t nearly as over as she’s afraid they are. “Thank you,” Demi wanted to argue that she looked more than nice, but she wouldn't press Isaac for more -- not here anyway. “And you look handsome,” she lifted her hand off his shoulder to brush against the scruff on his cheek. “Are you changing your look?”
Isaac had a good amount of scruff on his face, which was definitely a change from how he usually liked to keep himself clean shaven. He couldn’t exactly tell Demi that he hadn’t been shaving because he didn’t want to give her the opportunity to corner him in the bathroom and start a fight with him, so he just nodded at her assumption, knowing it would be much easier this way. “Thought I’d give it a try. What’s the consensus?”
Talking about his facial hair was a much safer topic of conversation than taking a stroll down memory lane to that time he fucked Demi on his desk. Yep, way safer.
Cocking her head to the side, Demi drew her lower lip in between her teeth as if she was deep in thought with considering Isaac’s newfound scruffy look. “It gives you a kind of rugged charm,” she finally answered, her hand brushing against the whiskers along his jaw before she let it drop back down to his shoulder. “Makes you real irresistible,” Demi added, automatically going in to kiss him but quickly stopping short and falling back down onto the heels of her feet before her lips made contact with his.
Isaac inhaled as he watched Demi approach him for a kiss and didn't exhale it until her feet were flat against the ground again -- or as flat as they could be when she was wearing heels like that.
Trying to mask the look of disappointment on his face, from missing her touch on his face as well as the feeling of her lips on his, it was his turn now to say, “Thank you. So, are you having a nice time?”
For the briefest of moments Demi wondered if she had just imagined a flash of disappointment in Isaac’s eyes, or if he really had been expecting her to follow through with the kiss. Did that mean he still wanted her? That was a thought that had begun to slink around the edges of her mind, usually in the middle of the night when the bed felt too big and the room felt too quiet without Isaac’s steady breathing next to her.
Chasing those thoughts away, Demi focused instead on the question he had asked her. “It hasn’t been awful,” she replied, smiling softly. “It’s better now that my company has improved, though.” Even if they were fighting and freezing each other out, she couldn’t stop herself from being honest in the fact that she was happier now that she was with Isaac.
Isaac’s mouth pulled up slightly at Demi’s words. This fighting was killing him and he wished he could kiss her and dance with her and make everything right between them but he couldn’t. He might love her but he couldn’t compromise himself in order to do so. “I’m glad you’ve been having a good time. Not that you asked, but, I’ve been having a good time, too.” So he was a little snarky, but at least they were talking to each other. This was more than they’d said to each other in days.
