She jumped slightly when he yanked his hand back. "Looks like it could use some rest," she told him. Which was probably obvious, and he could also use some ice. But she didn't push it. She didn't need to be actually told 'butt out'. She read it loud and clear in the tone.
She kept quiet too, but when he spoke, she answered. "Can't sleep," she confessed. The reality was it happened more often than anyone knew, really. Didn't fit the image of a leader who had their shit together if they were losing sleep and showing the frayed edges. She didn't imagine she had to pin point what was keeping her awake. She wasn't sleeping, he was hitting things way too hard and drinking.
