WHO: Theo and Isaac WHERE: Theo's Old Apartment WHAT: A much needed day away from the Capitol. WHEN: Thursday morning on November 6th at 7:00 AM.
Theo hadn't been back to his old apartment in two years.
He had made one stop back there after he was quarantined in LBJ. After that, he'd never bothered to look back. It had never been home to him. Not home like Portland. Instead, he'd bunker down in the office he was given upon his return and he turned it into his new living space. He didn't need a room, didn't want one. It didn't feel right to live in luxury when civilians were huddled together in wretched conditions outside by the thousands. An office place was good enough for him.
Over time, he had made the room somewhat more comfortable to live in. It might be a little tight and a little cluttered, but it was still relatively homey with cabinets, shelves, and other personal touches added to its interior through photos and posters. But, as nice as it was, Theo had been getting an urge to visit his old apartment ever since he'd stepped foot back into Austin. He wanted to see what state it was in, what was left inside. Maybe he might even find something worthwhile.
His apartment was located at Lady Bird Lane. Even though he didn't mind the walk (a little over an hour), Theo decided to take a car today. The streets remained unsafe even with the very recent capture of the Hellhounds. Shufflers aside, Los Nahuales was still out there. They were a far bigger threat than Rodeo and his crew could ever be if Olinger was backing them up. He had never much liked the man, but now he was suspicious of him too. Doubt had begun to fester ever since he'd heard Savannah's side of the story on what had happened to Grayson Wolfe.
And, with the additional evidence collected (and later confiscated by patrolmen) from the corpses of the cartel members and the military-grade weaponry in their possession as well as the personal account on the origins of where the Hellhounds had first found their Prax by the Dog King himself in his recently released interview, Theo's confidence in the mayor's innocence was growing weaker by the day. He needed indisputable proof if he was going to make a case against Olinger though.
Unfortunately, anything of actual value had been taken away from the APD. He did manage to save a couple of relevant photos, but it wasn't enough. He needed hard evidence; not speculation. It wasn't going to be easy either. If he was going to investigate into Olinger, he needed to be careful and he needed support. Slipping a stir stick into the corner of his mouth, Theo chewed on it idly as he slid into the driver's seat of the patrol car. He had met Isaac at the front door of the building at 7:00 AM sharp. Now, he was just ready to get away from all the chaos within, to clear his mind.
"How's your back?" He joked, turning out onto the driveway. He hadn't bothered to initiate a conversation between them until now. "Need me to give it a good rubbing later?"
