“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” Were the only words spilling out of the girl’s lips. She had been in a full on sprint as she dashed through downtown Austin in the direction of the school. Somewhere she had gotten cut off from the rest of group and she could feel her cellphone buzzing. At this point though, she cared less for their concern and more for her self-preservation. She had yet to see a runner, but crawlers had always freaked her the fuck out. The minute she could cut the geek’s line of sight, she ducked into a nearby building and closed the door behind her. Vic turned at the sound, his head easily visible over the shelving of the pharmacy that the girl had just run into. He and a prospect -- he assumed the kid was in the back corner, looking for bandages -- had been looting the place when they suddenly found themselves with company. "Who the fuck are you?" he barked out, oblivious to the danger she'd fled from. Etty had been resting against the door momentarily as her eyes locked with that of the large biker. At this point she wasn’t sure what was safer-- being in here with him or out there with that thing on her tail. “I-- I uhh,” she stumbled with her words as she gripped the handle of her bat tightly. It had been then that she had heard the awful sound it made from outside that Etty pushed from the door and deeper into the pharmacy, squirming herself through a small aisle towards the back of the store. Surely there’d be a back door. "That doesn't sound like an answer." Vic could barely make her out from where he was standing. Her voice didn't make it seem like she was much of a threat to him, but why take chances like that? He came down the hallway and his eyes narrowed once he saw her fully. She didn't look like she was much older than Sasha, if at all. "You're just a kid. What the fuck are you doing out here?" The girl was at the door, ramming her shoulder repeatedly with only failed huffs. Seeing as he neared her, Etty tried to look over his shoulder but his figure as she pressed her finger to her lips in hopes of silencing his question. Though just at the moment she had been about to speak her expression fell. The girl’s eyes widened as she pressed her back against the door watching quietly over the man’s shoulder. “It’s right the--” before she could finish her whisper, there was a loud crash through the glass. Vic swore in Russian under his breath, acting on instinct to reach out and grab the girl by the wrist and pull her away from the zombie who'd just busted through the door. Danger was imminent and he could feel himself getting amped up on the adrenaline that came with making an escape, but he couldn't help but lecture her still as they ran towards the back entrance, the prospect running to meet them. "The fuck you were thinking, luring them into your hiding spot? Why'd you stick around near the door? If you're gonna go inside at least move where they can't fucking see you." Esther hadn’t even bothered to account of the man’s strength, for when he pulled her she almost felt herself lose balance. Her feet stumbled forward clumsily before falling down on a solid beat. “I was moving!” she argued with him as she kept up the pace. “I didn’t expect to find you and your friend in here-- it caught me off guard!” She could hear the creature’s scurrying behind them. The sounds that reverberated from his throat sending shivers down the girl’s spine. Her grip around the bat tightened. “You’ve got a plan b, right?” They were moving pretty quickly, but the zombie in pursuit of them was fast, too -- and there were more coming in now, too, through the broken glass. Fuck. "Back door," he said, shoving the girl towards the prospect and didn't waste a moment before he turned to face the geek, firing two shots into its ugly face and sending a spray into some of the others. Once more of them had dropped, Vic turned and ran towards the back door, hoping the girl was already out with the other Hound. They could get away on their bikes. The sound of breaking glass made the girl wince automatically reaching for her head despite knowing the shards wouldn’t reach her. She kept her pace up, though almost tripped over her own legs as she sped towards the other hellhound. There was a jump in her step at the sound of the shots. Stumbling out into the alley through the back door, she swing her gaze down both sides of the street. The geeks were gathering at the sound. “Quick, mister!” she called out behind her. Etty watched as the other hellhound had mounted his bike. Her eyes landed on the vacant one, the one that she assumed belong to the man behind her. There was a bubble of anxiety growing within her as her eyes shot back towards the slow crawl of the zombies. He wouldn’t leave her, right? Vic burst through the back door then, having abandoned shooting the geeks behind him in favor of getting the fuck out of there. He got onto his bike, clumsy in his haste, then looked over his shoulder to make eye contact with the girl who'd had the nerve to interrupt their raiding with her stupidity. Her feet were still firmly planted on the ground. Her eyes reminded him of his son's. There wasn't time to consider any other option. "Get on unless you feel like dying today," he ordered, revving the engine and signaling for the prospect to take the lead once the girl got on behind Vic. Prospect or not, Vic's number one responsibility was to protect his crew. He'd be safer in front. A sigh of relief left her lips as soon as she heard the words. The Hellhound didn’t need to speak twice as Etty already found herself mounting the back of his bike. Looking over her shoulder, she could hear the groans growing louder, but it didn't take long before they were speeding away. "Fox Grove?" Vic guessed out loud, raising his voice to be heard over the sounds of the engine, then guided the bike in that direction after receiving confirmation. It was a detour he hadn't planned on, but he didn't need her death on his conscience that day. |
