There was no way to miss the way Demi’s expression darkened as she realized that Isaac was going to be out the door soon, just like Lita had been. She knew it was coming, he had a job and responsibilities, but she didn’t have to enjoy being the one left behind to bide her time in the apartment. Even with the dismal thought of spending the rest of the afternoon by herself, Demi returns the kiss and was smiling when Isaac ended it. “That better be a promise,” she answered, the disappointed look in her eyes gone. “And you know I’ll be here waiting.”
She sighed as he pulled away and slipped out the door. The apartment feeling bigger now that it was just her residing inside of it. Crossing the room to where her phone still sat on the side table, Demi picked it up and began scrolling through Lita’s messages. Once she was done reading the old ones, she sent off a new one apologizing again for failing as a friend -- after all it wasn’t like she had many of those around the Capitol and Lita was a friend she wanted to keep.
With that done and nothing else to occupy her time, Demi fell back on her the tried and true way she had found to pass the time -- reading. Finding her copy of Pride and Prejudice on the side table, she curled up on the couch with it and began reading it for what felt like the fiftieth time since she had found herself free of La Quinta.
