Look Out Sunshine, Here's the Punchline... Who: Lita Singh, Demi Rafferty, and Isaac Callahan Where: Demi and Isaac's Apartment When: 10/9/18, 2:30 p.m. What: After several un-returned texts and phone calls, Lita braves the Capitol to check in on her friend/patient, Demi. She finally meets the famous Isaac but at a most inopportune time
Well look out, Sunshine, here I come You've got yesterday's hero in last nights clothes You're a game old boy judging by the way you walk Well, there's no use telling me to leave I've seen a half a dozen ghosts but I don't believe.
Lita wasn't worried per say. Sure, she had sent Demi six texts and had called her twice and hadn't received one peep in response for two days now. But that didn't mean anything. She was probably just busy; doing lunch with the Senator's wives, doing her physical therapy, doing Isaac. The later was the most likely culprit but still, it wasn't like her friend to completely blow her off. Lita had the afternoon free and even though the Capitol was last on her list of places she wanted to visit, she felt she owed it to herself and Demi just to make sure her friend hadn't fallen off the face of the earth...or worse. Isaac was usually at work this time of day so if Demi was there, at least the two women would be alone for enough time to catch up. Lita didn't like to think what would happen if her friend was truly M.I.A.. Who could she go to, the police? Lita resolves to cross that bridge if and when she comes to it.
Every time she walks into the Capitol, Lita waits for alarms to sound. And, as is the same with every visit, she is admitted to the building with very little hassle or fanfare. A guard even tips his hat to her; Lita pretends not to notice. She follows the same, familiar path up to Demi's apartment, giving those sad, noncommittal nods and tight-lipped grimaces of greeting to the people she passes along the way. Lita approaches the door, raps her knuckles against the door, and waits. A few seconds pass and, knowing how goddamn big and cavernous Demi's place is, knocks again, louder this time. The longer she waits the more conspicuous she thinks she looks and the more anxious she definitely knows she feels. This was a bad idea. Lita's already running the different scenarios through her mind of how to proceed when she hears footfalls coming from inside.
