Dear Mr. Harper,
You do not know me, but I know you. Now, first and foremost, I must let it be known that I have been working with the Agency for many years now, but on something of -- let's call it -- a "top secret" mission that requires a shroud of anonymity. This, no matter how temporary, is why I am unable to disclose any information in regards to my person at this point in time. However, with the recent loss of our late, yet eternally extraordinary, Director, Mr. Macintosh, I'm afraid an unfortunate gap has been left open, and vulnerable, in our Agency. A gap, I regret to say, I cannot, personally, cater to in our present.
This, Mr. Harper, is where you come in. I have been observing your work for some time now, and you have certainly devoted your heart and soul to this Agency. When we were in need, you were there with fresh ideas, the initiative to put your best foot forward. I wish to congratulate your efforts by leaving you, until I am able to come forth myself, with the position of Director. Although, in this trying time of ours, do not think of yourself as a substitute, or a man keeping the driver's seat warm. When things are back in working order again, you will still be treated with the same level of privilege and respect as if you were still the Director. I am bequeathing this unto you in good faith. You are free to decline, naturally, in the case that this is exactly where your aspirations don't lie, or if it is simply not a path you wish to pursue. The offer will be passed on to someone else and no harm will be done.
Thank you for your time, Mr. Harper, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. If you have any questions or concerns, by all means, pass them my way through a response. The source may still read as anonymous, but the wonders of the Internet never do seem to cease. Until then, I remain your loyal friend and ally,
P.
