Jess had been a mentor much longer than Lana Ross, this was only Lana's first year of mentoring as she'd won the games just last year. All Jess really knew about her was her reincarnate, and the fact that she'd won the games because she cheated. Some bullshit ploy to get herself and the boy from Twelve out of the arena alive together. Most of the Capitol had been completely enamored by the idea of 'true love' triumphing over the games, but Jess had found it annoying, and quite frankly, infuriating. What made them so special that they both got to live when so many other kids had died?
She was aware of who Lana Ross's reincarnate was, and that didn't make her annoyance lessen any. Of course the fucking Mockingjay would get lucky twice. Like most things, it made her blood boil. Everything pissed Jess off, except Lucas. And her sister. This games had proved to be the hardest one for Jess, including her own, and it had been difficult for her to concentrate on anything else. Lucas actually had to drag her from the room a few times before she made a scene while watching the first day in the arena. But Haley was still alive, and Jess was still trying to process what had compelled the man from District 8 to put himself in front of those mutts for her sister, but she was definitely grateful.
The only reason she was at this party was because this is where more of the booze lived, she'd didn't give a shit about sponsors. She already had those in the bag. Actually, Haley did. After she morphed into a wolf for the first time, she'd generated twice as much interest from the sponsors that she already had. Jess was proud, and she had it on good authority that a sponsor had just sent her some gifts as Jess had left the other room. Now that Haley was by herself, she was a more desirable candidate for winning. Jess was actually starting to let herself hope.
"Get out of my face," Jess told the unsuspecting Capitol citizen who was stupid enough to try and get in between her and the table of drinks. They were quick to scurry out of the way, as Jess was already well known in the Capitol for having a temper, and the female mentor from Seven secured a drink in one hand before turning around and spotting Lana Ross herself, running away from a group of Capitol morons. Jess smirked and leaned against one of the columns closer to the tables. They hadn't spoken yet since they'd been in the Capitol, but that didn't stop Jess from aiming for a 'great' first impression. "You know, if you run away any faster, they might think you don't actually like 'em."
