Re: The Lake
Tess was sitting by the lake, spear draped over her lap as she used the sharp edge of a rock to further sharpen the end of her weapon. She'd agreed to the trade with Andy because, as skilled as Thalia had become with a bow after she'd joined Artemis's hunt, Tess felt a lot more comfortable with a spear in her hands. It was simple. Elegant. And she had a pretty killer throwing arm. Yes, this was much better.
She rolled her eyes at Andy's bragging but at first said nothing, content to continue sharpening her weapon and keep an eye out for any stray tributes who might accidentally wander into their domain. The battle in the Cornucopia hadn't lasted long, but it'd been more than effective. They'd managed to kill seven tributes just in that first blood bath alone, and afterwards, everyone else had already scattered into the arena so the Careers had access to what was left of the Cornucopia's supplies, a lot of the weapons and some of the best packs. Now they'd taken control of the lake, the perfect place to set up and pick tributes off one by one. Tess wasn't going to complain.
"Whatever. I don't care who I kill, a tribute's a tribute." Tess smirked at Zane's comment, knowing exactly what he meant and silently echoing it. She may have been the one to push for an alliance with Andy, but she wouldn't hesitate to kill her if and when it came down to it. She was determined to survive, and the other girl had too big an ego, it was bound to be the death of her anyway. A sudden noise reached her ears and Tess looked up sharply, watching as a group of tributes crashed through the trees on the other side of the lake. They seemed to momentarily not notice the Careers, and one of them looked like the girl from Twelve. The demigod nodded in their direction to the other Careers. "Incoming."
