Re: Muttations
Jay hadn't stopped to try to get his hands on anything before fleeing. He knew better, knew that once he headed into that fray, he had no way of getting out again. No amount of talking was going to save him if he got on the wrong side of a career, so he embraced his best option and fled. He didn't even stop to look for Holly before he went, hoping she'd be sensible enough to get out without trying to go after the bow he'd seen among the weapons.
He'd made it into a stretch of forest that seemed pretty tame before stopping to catch his breath, hidden behind a stout tree. It wouldn't offer him much protection unless he decided to start climbing, but for a temporary stop, it wasn't bad.
That was, until someone slammed into him, knocking him backwards.
He would have been on his ass if he hadn't managed to put a hand out to steady himself on the tree, the rough bark scraping his palm painfully. With the adrenaline pumping through him at the prospect of confronting another tribute, though, that didn't matter. He didn't realize, at first, who it was, until he met the big blue eyes of the girl from Two. Then, without a second thought, he held a hand out to her, a silent offer to help her up.
