In a week the group of survivors had managed to trek their way across the desert from Nevada to Arizona, the rumored ground zero of contagion. Before communications had gone down one of the last things they'd heard was that the source of the outbreak had started in Phoenix. No doubt where the Resistance had been doing all their tests after stealing them from the U.S. Government. Shae was nervous about it, but she understood why they were here. There were people in the group who believed that the only place they even had a shot at finding a cure in was here, and that probably meant tangling with what was now known as the Alliance, but they were prepared for it. Aside from the few token scientist types that had pushed the idea of heading to Phoenix, there were a lot of fighters in the group. They'd made it this far, and now they were almost there.
Shae let out a low sigh from her seat in the back of one of the trucks, leaning her forehead heavily against the window and staring outward. She'd seen the signs for Phoenix pass by in a blur about twenty minutes ago, they were almost into the city now, where there were sure to be more of them. The walkers. Everything had changed since the outbreak, especially the ratio of the living to the undead, but one of the things Shae hadn't expected to change was her. For reasons unknown, she couldn't connect to the dimensions anymore. She couldn't do spells. It was as if the dying Earth was also causing magic to die as well, the very magic that she used to tap into, which made Shae think that one day she might wake up with no Raven all together. The thought made her more uneasy than she liked. She'd gotten used to the sorceress after all these years.
To compensate she'd learned how to use a gun, and make the best of her situation just like everybody else, but the longer she spent without magic the longer she was really starting to freak out. The ex-magician fidgeted uncomfortably in her seat, other cars in their caravan pulling up along side them as she posed the age old question.
"Are we there yet?"
