Kylie caught him off guard, but thankfully he had already finished setting everything up so he whirled around inside the tent with a sheepish grin. Everyone had been having a rough time of it lately, but naturally Kylie was always Thomas's first and only priority, so he was extra aware of what she was going through. He couldn't imagine the agony of not knowing what had happened to your family, he had never really had one, but he could imagine the pain of not knowing if Kylie was alive or dead. So doing this for her, even in the face of Charlie's wrath, was well worth it. Just to see her smile once.
"Well, uh," Thomas laughed nervously and scratched at the back of his head. Even after all this time, she still made him nervous as all hell. It was nice. He didn't mind. "Dunno if you were aware, but it is Valentine's Day, babes. And zombie apocalypses or not, we're having a bloody Valentine's dinner."
He gestured for her to take a seat on the blankets near the food and turned to a somewhat dusty, totally old but totally still useable stereo and pressed play on the disc. The first few chords of Lifehouse's 'Everything' started playing. Any other time in his life Thomas would have been embarrassed to even admit he knew this band but you couldn't be picky about the loot you came across after the world ended and Thomas had immediately snatched up the stereo and the CD's with it when he'd found it all.
Anything to keep some shred of humanity with them. He turned the volume down a little lower since noise usually meant zombies, before clearing his throat and turning around to face Kylie with an embarrassed shrug. Honestly? This song had immediately made him think of her. "I love you too."
