He fell silent then, counting the beats of her heartbeat. Her breathing was shallow and he sensed that she was having trouble breathing. Moving his hand away, he slipped it into his pocket and pulled out a lighter. Clicking it, the flame shone in the darkness between them. He ran it in front of her eyes, looking for the dilation of her pupils.
