Hogwarts Valentine's Day Festivities!
What: Valentine's Day Feast, Dance, & Pranks!
Where: Hogwarts Great Hall
When: Saturday Evening
Status: IC/OOC

OOC: I'm at work so I can't search for gifs to make this post pretty. Check back later if that sort of thing matters to you. :P Otherwise, carry on! REMEMBER: No journal entries regarding Saturday's events until, yanno, Saturday.

SETUP & FOOD: As everyone knows well enough by now, Hogwarts thrives on its traditions. Some may be quirky or even downright odd, but it all works, somehow. The Valentine's Day festivities are yet another example of such tradition. This year, as in years previous, a formal feast was omitted in favor of Valentine's-themed sweets. Cakes, cookies, candies, and various punches were all readily available. The Hall itself was decorated as well, in varying shades of red, pink, and white- the decorations weren't as oppressive as some other holidays, however. (Christmas and Halloween, we're looking at you.)

MUSIC: For the past several years, music for the dance has been provided by the The Quixotic Quartet, a foursome of WADA graduates that is quite obviously Minerva's favorite. Their music lends itself to very traditional dancing. (Note: some of the songs that VSQ has uploaded are obviously too modern to have been done by TQQ. Yes, they do cover muggle music- WADA students are well-rounded! ;) But nothing that's newer than 1998.) Prior to the The Quixotic Quartet, Spellbound will perform!

PRANKS:

CUPID — Someone caught several garden gnomes and has charmed them with wings, bow & arrow, and cupid outfits! Whenever someone is struck by an arrow (it doesn't hurt or injure you any more than throwing a quill at someone would), they'll be overcome by a cheering charm- an overwhelming sense of joy that lasts for the next five minutes.
CANDIES — Among the candies available are Love Hearts. There are several flavors of these, all in a mixed bowl. Each heart has a different saying on it. If you eat a red heart, however, you will only be able to say the phrase on that heart for the next thirty seconds! (All other heart flavors are safe to eat. Also note, some of the phrases at the link are obviously too modern or muggle to apply here.)
PUNCH — There are three or four different drinks available- various flavored punches- but one, which is a lovely shade of lime green and tastes like watermelon, causes brief feelings of "puppy love" for whomever you're with at the time of drinking. The effects only last for about a minute after drinking.

VALENTINES: These are sent out and received on Saturday morning, well before the dance. Hogwarts valentines are HERE and Weasley valentines are HERE. Anonymity on all valentines remains in effect until Sunday morning, February 15th. Anonymity is only revealed if there were mutual anonymous valentines exchanged.

	Theo was definitely there and spent much of the time milling about a table he commandeered for the Slytherin 7th group. He wore robes of a deep brown, nearly black, and was generally in a good mood the whole evening. See everyone, he can be a good boy now and again. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	Ron was there, looking uncomfortable in some hand me down robes that were a weird shade of gold. he didn't have a date and probably looked a bit miserable at times. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	Hermione attended with Terry Boot as her date. She wore a pretty blue dress and her hair was straight. She had a wonderful times with friends. (Reply to this) (Parent)

Anthony was there with Mandy. He was wearing dress robes that he bought secondhand in Hogsmeade last weekend when he suddenly realized he would need them. They are sky blue, a little too short, and a little too wide, and he does not appear to notice how terrible they look. He was slightly quieter than normal. He may be smuggling in a travel-sized (yes, Muggle) chessboard in one of his pockets, but only for use as a last resort.

	Oh yes, she showed up. In a hand dress she found in a hand-me down shop but is quite lovely. She spent most of her time dancing planning for the big reveal and making sure it went smoothly with Kevin. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Greg wore black dress robes and a red cravat, since it was Valentine's. When he wasn't dancing, he stayed near the Slytherin table Theo had established. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	Ernie's a numpty and therefore attended all by himself. He was dressed in very nice black robes and was very nice to people. He was being friendly, sociable and trying hard not to look bored. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	Calliope definitely went, and she looked amazing. Unfortunately, Theodore Nott was not officially her date, much to her chagrin, but that didn't stop her shooting longing looks in his direction for much of the night. I don't know how it happened, but she really fancies him. And it's not just about making a good marriage. She's actually attracted to him lol. (Reply to this) (Parent)
