Colleagues, as you may know, a representative of the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol was in my office today to discuss how an unauthorised article was slipped into the paper last week. The patrol officer brought to my attention something that I was generally aware of but had not been advised of the specifics of until today.

Following on the publication of the Lady Noir advert in December of last year, the Ministry decreed that unauthorised use of the press was a crime with a range of sentences including time spent in Azkaban prison. The law was intended to punish accomplices of Lady Noir but I have been advised that it will also apply in this case because of potential security implications for future leaks.

If the perpetrator chooses to step forward, I'll see what I can do to mitigate prosecution. I don't want to see my employees, current or former, in Azkaban over a moment of poor impulse control. Next time, just advise your friends to send a letter to the editor, please.

Last, but not least, the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol has a security scheme that they would like to see implemented in this office and the press to prevent future unauthorised articles being printed and distributed. Look for another memo soon about increased security in the press. I apologise in advance for the additional inconvenience, but I consider this a better outcome than Ministry officials in the Prophet, which was one option the Ministry offered.
