Unbreakable Vow palepanache 2015-05-25 02:40 am UTC (link)

Before the meeting begins, everyone will be asked to take an Unbreakable Vow. I will not reveal the identities of anyone on the Death Eater Affiliates Ward without their express permission. I will not reveal any privileged information received via the Death Eater Affiliates journal network except for the purpose of carrying out a task that advances the group's goals. Anyone not willing to take this vow will be apparated away, have their memories of the location obliviated, and removed from the Death Eater Affiliates network. Do you take the vow? Only comment would be that we'd need to get both the people who aren't here and still want to be a part (Rookwood?) to take it at some point too. And if we're bringing any of the younger generation in, same vow (but the comment on the younger generation will probably come during the outreach discussion later in the evening). (and I assume they switch up who they take the Unbreakable Vow to? Sort of pair up to do so rather than everyone taking it with the same person?) (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Thaddeus feels that taking a vow portrays an extreme lack of trust in who they're working with, which makes him trust them less, but he decides to keep that observation to himself. Which means that he takes the vow without complaint, like a good little death eater. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	Thorfinn has no objections, though makes sure there is a way to tell Merry should there become a time when she is ready to join the Death Eaters. Also, he would prefer to take the Vow with his family members, and ask for Snape and Fletcher to switch, so Snape takes the vow with the Mulciber's and all three Rowle's take the Unbreakable Vow together. 	As the person who oversees the network, Hallam merely chuckles at being asked if he'll take the vow. The answer is "of course, but if you were to erase my memories how would I know to remove myself from the network." Cosmo suggests that if there is a movement to change the name, and for all that he is aware of the power and fear the name invokes, there are reasons to dissociate ourselves from that era, we should choose a name with an equally old provenance and a reputation that invokes the fear of the Death Eaters: The Knights of Walpurgis. Also, there may be reasons for us to come up with a more public social group, one that contains friendly spirits, the youngsters we wish to groom, etc. That group would obviously need a name, and probably nothing with Walpurgis in it because of the associations. Cosmo wants to leave his children a better world. By which he means one in which traditional wizarding values rule society, preferably through the direction, more or less explicit, of the families who are solely wizarding both in bloodline and culture. The latter is equally important as far as Cosmo is concerned: not just because of blood traitors but because one of the problems with Muggle influences is that they chip away at the acceptance of proper roles and hierarchy. It's possible to be unfortunately less than pure in blood and to reject that deficiency by adhering to wizarding culture and values. Cosmo believes that the carrot is as important as the stick. Offering the carrot means we have to have things to offer. Not just money, but power and influence to get things done. That means, ultimately, control of senior offices in the Ministry, control of the Wizengamot, control of institutions like Hogwarts (via the board and the Headmaster) and St Mungo's (via the board and administration). And of the media, such as the Prophet and the WWN. Ultimately institutions need to be brought in line or somehow destroyed/discredited. We are fighting a war for hearts and minds. Lucius suggests that going forward, any big actions--especially attacks, even on unimportant targets--need to be shared with the group. If not ahead of time (which is preferable), at the very least shortly afterwards. No one wants to get caught holding the bag because they didn't know what someone else was up to. With the school year ending, several of us have children who will be leaving Hogwarts and could possibly be of assistance accomplishing our goals. Additionally, there are some young men and women of good families who may sympathize with the cause but who have not had the opportunity to properly interact with us. Cosmo is in favour of outreach but believes that we should be cautious in those we allow in. They should have to prove themselves before they're offered a chance to join--this with an eye to keeping undercover Aurors and/or anti-purist vigilantes out. He can offer opinions on the youngsters he knows but other than those who work for the Prophet (e.g., young Rosier) he's not as well acquainted with the current and recent graduates as some of the others here.
