PREWETT PERISHES IN PUZZLING PROCEEDINGS
By R. Almeidus
Enquiring minds are wondering whether there's a concerted campaign to kill the convicts released by former Minister Regulus Black following the death of the second of their number in several months. Sources at St Mungo's say that Gideon Prewett, former Auror and Azkaban convict, is the second of the released and rehabilitated vigilantes to die under cryptic circumstances since the beginning of 1998.
Prewett was convicted of the murder of Fenrir Greyback in 1980 and sent to Azkaban for life. Since his release, Prewett has been a recluse, rarely seen outside his Yorkshire farm. Hospital sources say that Prewett had been away from his farm, returning Thursday evening, and died. His brother, ex-convict Fabian Prewett, and two unidentified persons brought him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Neither DMLE sources nor St Mungo's have any comment on the cause of death at this time. Family members have offered no comment.
Prewett's death follows less than two months after the mysterious murder of Rodolphus Lestrange, also released from Azkaban in 1990. The elder Lestrange brother was also reclusive in the wake of his release, spending most of his time in the home he once shared with his late wife, the notorious Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange. Lestrange's body was found after he missed an appointment with an unnamed acquaintance. No suspect has been named in Lestrange's apparent murder.
Of the fourteen convicts released by former Minister Black in 1990, two are now dead in the strangest of situations, both of which reek of foul play. This news comes in addition to the persons in December, one in a list publicised by Lady Noir and another list created by the murderer of two Muggleborn witches at Gringotts. At least two of those named on those lists have been the subject of attempts on their lives: the former French Ambassador, now returned to France, and Dirk Cresswell, murdered in January by a self-proclaimed adherent of Lady Noir. The DMLE has remained suspiciously silent on both these lists and any other sources that the murderous Lady Noir may be concocting a campaign from.
