This is to follow up on our discussion of election coverage earlier today. As you know, we plan to publish a series of predictions from noted arithmancers, astrologers, and diviners about the outcome of the elections over the weekend. Attached is a list of individuals who have agreed in the past to provide the Prophet with predictions for portentous occasions.

This feature should also include a wizard-in-the-street interview about the election with at least three witches or wizards. Anonymous quotes will be acceptable.

I'll be looking for your article Wednesday afternoon by 5 pm.

Attachment: One list [with six names on it: two diviners, including Sybill Trelawney, two astrologers, and two arithmancers]

Duly noted, sir.

Is there a chance we know the accuracy rate of these predictions? Might be interesting to note it in the piece.

Obviously we won't know the accuracy of them until the election's over, but personally I'm not convinced any of them have much better odds than flipping a knut.

The public eats this sort of thing up, though, so we'll feed it to them.

Don't you think that maybe we ought to be focusing on things that actually have something to do with the well being of the public instead of giving them more bullshit entertainment pieces about predictions that aren't going to impact the election. According to sources there's been another Lady Noir attack. I could follow some of those leads, do a wizard-in-the-street interview of some blokes about how they feel about their lives being in potential danger.

Nobody wants to hear how people in the street feel about Lady Noir, Jordan. We all know the answer is 'scared'. I'm still unnerved by how she got in here to put her list on the front page back in December myself.

Get me the predictions piece and your story on the Noir attack and we can run both if we can source it solidly. Is that good enough for you?

that is good enough bloody hell that was not my point

Yes, that is good enough. But do they feel scared? Do they feel apathetic? Or distanced from the blight of the muggle born? Are they angry? We don't know because we've dismissed our own readers. We've run pieces on our ministry candidates and how they feel about the issue at hand, but we're the voice of this community. We should be lending our voice out to the people reading our reports.

We tried to run pieces on all the Ministry candidates and some of them couldn't even be arsed to show up for whatever reason. News is inherently imperfect. It's a problem of the industry.

I'm not asking this as a rhetorical question, but because I'm interested in what you have to say in answer: do you think the readers are interested in what wizards on the street have to say about Lady Noir?

I think our readers have been told the bare minimum of these Lady Noir cases in an attempt to keep them from panicking. So it might be interesting for them to hear what conclusions their peers have come to, to know that perhaps they're not alone in their opinions. It might be more enlightening than you'd think, sir. It could be beneficial to us too. Knowing our readers makes it easier for us to write to our readers, and publish what they're more likely to buy.

I'm not anxious to return to the days in the last war when the Ministry (which is to say the DMLE) exercised a veto over our stories, Jordan.

But if you want to try this and say it's a public service, get it to me this week, because it's the sort of thing people should know before they vote. Also, please solicit opinions from people who aren't the Weasleys, or closely related to them. There are other people on the street, even if it's Diagon Alley.

It truly hurts me deeply for you to insinuate that my Weasley brethren are the only sources I'd go to for opinions, sir.

I will be very pleased for you to demonstrate the breadth of your contacts with this article. You have the instincts of a great reporter, Jordan, and I'd like to see you mature into a star. Now go get me those stories so we can put them all over the front page.
