"Still no excuse for you to hear it from me," Ron muttered. He actually held himself to pretty high standards in this - his mum had drummed it into him that certainly things just weren't to be said in front of women.
Ron managed not to glare at her, but it was obvious his metaphorical hackles were raised, though the apology had taken a little of the fire out of it. "Why would that pop into your head?" he asked. "Do I look like I'm -" Ron wasn't as broad or as masculine as some of his brothers, he knew that, but for Merlin's sake that didn't make him some kind of shirt-lifter. "I like women!" His voice was pitched too loud, and the heads that turned towards him only made him feel more like he needed to defend himself. "Why else did I ask you out?!"
