"Oh yeah," Oliver replied when Charlie reminded him that he was actually quite a bit shorter than Oliver. It had honestly escaped Oliver's mind that you had to account for things like tallness when getting trousers. Sometimes, Oliver was sure, there was just a bit of his brain that intentionally withheld common sense information from Oliver to make him sound stupid. Still, he did grin when Charlie said he'd just go shopping. Oliver really did look forward to seeing Charlie in a suit.
At the other man's question, Oliver frowned. He hadn't... he hadn't actually considered this to be representative of anything other than a dinner, but Charlie was right, it would be seen as their coming out (pardon the pun) as a couple. Maybe that wasn't what Charlie wanted? Oliver felt like he had been very presumptuous without meaning to, presenting Charlie with a fact rather than a choice. What if Charlie didn't want to make this public? He already had fallen out with one of his brothers, who's to say that he'd want to risk falling out with more people because of Oliver?
"I--" Oliver started before blinking slowly at Charlie. "Um, I'm sorry, I didn't--" think. Oh, Oliver, you're so stupid. "We don't have to go," Oliver offered instead. "We could stay in if you rather?" Because that would be okay, too. Oliver didn't want to push Charlie into something he didn't want to. He never did. Oliver was still scared shitless that he'd do the wrong thing, say the wrong words and Charlie would be gone.
