"All right," Nikolai replied, letting the hand fall. He was pleased that they were now now interacting peacefully, even if they were only discussing bed coverings. It made him think, just for a moment, that they could get back to the nice place they'd been before she'd kissed him.
He felt himself flush as the memory popped back into his head and he turned immediately to gather spare blankets and a pillow from his tiny linen closet. He returned with these and offered them to Sasha. "Do you need anything else?"
He both hoped she said yes and hoped she said no. It was a very complicated thing to feel on a very confusing, albeit enlightening, evening.
