Remus had all but given up on finding somebody he wanted to spend his life with. He’d written himself off as dangerous and then too old to bother. Now there was a pretty girl who wanted to give him a chance, and he couldn’t bring himself to think he was worth the trouble. Spending time together as friends was entirely different.
“It only takes one accident to ruin your life,” he told her seriously. “What if we get too comfortable? Too reckless? Thinking that I’m not dangerous during the full moon because of the potion is exactly what could cause a problem. Complacency on your part or mine could result in…” He paused. He didn’t want to think about it. Biting her was an unforgivable crime.
“When you’re here like this, it’s different,” he told her. “You know I ask you not to come the week of the full moon, and you know why.” But if they were together, she would be here. Maybe not right away, but if their relationship progressed and became something serious, she would be there all the time. She would see him right before, on the day of, and right after. Remus did not have a lot of pride, that wasn’t the problem, but there were other things about that time period that was causing him hesitation. Things he didn’t want to go into.
