She let him take the ends of the chain from her, a hand dropping down automatically to the pendant itself. It was long enough, once connected, to lift and examine comfortably, which she did without reserve. It was just so pretty, and it meant a lot to her that he seemed to know her well enough to get it for her. Not that Dora thought her tastes were difficult to understand, but if he’d wanted the easy and impersonal gift, he would have gone for something either completely mundane, something a bro would get her, or he’d have gone for the pretty and sparkly things that other women liked.
“I’m pretty sure I need to get you two gifts to equal this one,” she joked. Only, she actually did feel like the book she’d purchased paled in comparison to such a lovely and thoughtful present.
