No, it was the perfect thing to say, as long as it was the truth, and pretty much everything Remus said was the truth; neither of them was really known for lies or half-truths, so Dora had no reason to doubt that little bit of honesty. It made her flush a pink she quickly clamped down on and washed away using her Meta ability, and she looked down and fought a smile. It was honestly probably nothing, but it didn’t feel like nothing. It didn’t feel like something he meant just because he was friendly.
The comment hung in the air for a long moment, Dora having no idea what to say that wasn’t some form of ‘I might be a little in love with you,’ before she finally sat lightly on the couch--this time more toward the middle and closer to Remus’ seat. “I guess it would be pretty rude of me to refuse to open the gift you got me,” she finally said lightly. She probably should have said something else, something else that expressed her feelings, but as usual, she didn’t know what she should have said.
Instead, she reached for the wrapped gift on the table and less-than-deftly ripped open the paper. inside a box lay a geode on a chain. “Oh my god,” she said, surprised, looking up at him. “It’s beautiful, thank you.” She meant it, too, it wasn’t just something she said because that was what you were supposed to say when someone gave you something. Dora picked the chunk of sparkly rock up to examine it closer; she loved the way the light caught it and made every angle look like a different color. A smile on her face, she took the clasp to fasten it around her neck.
