Higgs gave a soft smile when Glady's reached out to squeeze his hand. It was a sweet gesture and Higgs appreciated it more than he could express. "It doesn't make me responsible for fixing it, no," he agreed with a nod. "But I still want to," Higgs admitted. And that was sort of it. He didn't want Siobhan to be sad, even if her sadness had little to do with Higgs. Hell, he didn't want Max to be unhappy either but that one Higgs knew even less how to fix. At least Siobhan spoke to Higgs, told him what was worrying her and even if Higgs doubted he'd been all that great with his advice, the fact that she had someone to talk to, Higgs thought, mattered a lot.
"Sometimes I wonder if my not trying would be better for others," Higgs admitted when Gladys told him other people wouldn't bother as much as he did. Higgs knew that, there were plenty of people out there who found trying too hard and just didn't. Higgs was not one of those people. Whilst there might've been no shame in stepping away and giving it some time, he didn't want to do that. He just wondered if perhaps he should. But then, Siobhan had actually seemed like she wanted to talk to Higgs (even if he presumed him being the one she spoke to was more happenstance than choice). "I guess, I just want people to be happy," Higgs said with a shrug before giving a small laugh. "Maybe I'm just too nice," he offered jokingly.
