Whilst Higgs did spend a great part of his life teasing his sister about her cake consumption, he didn't actually think that Gemma would be able to eat a whole cake on her own. Still, he did grin at his nan's suggestion that that might be what had happened. "Well, I'm glad you've kept me some," he commented sitting down as she's instructed and then giving a small laugh when Gladys told him he was being vague. Yes, yes, Higgs supposed he was. The problem he was facing was that actually he would've quite liked to tell Gladys exactly what had transpired but neither Max nor Siobhan would've wanted for Higgs to do that and it really wasn't any of his business (as Max had repeatedly told him).
"It's not a work thing," Higgs told Gladys since he could definitely say that. "It's hard to explain because it doesn't concern me, I just accidentally happened to--" Well, Higgs wasn't actually sure what. He wasn't in the middle of it. Maybe the outskirts? He certainly knew more about the situation than he probably should, especially if you asked Max. But Higgs couldn't help that. "I accidentally told someone someone else's secret," he finally settled on. "But the someone I told probably needed to know anyway?" Which Higgs did think was true. Whether Max liked it or not, Siobhan needed to know the truth. Still, Higgs had never intended to accidentally blurt it out. "And as you'd presume, the someone with the secret didn't really want it told, and the someone who didn't know was rather upset," Higgs concluded realising that perhaps he had just told the most dumbed down version of the situation imaginable.
With a sigh, Higgs shook his head. "I try so hard to do well and it just--" didn't seem to ever work. Higgs had no idea what he was doing wrong but clearly there had to be something because this just kept happening over and over again.
