The past few days had been a bit... off. Since Higgs' chat with Siobhan on Saturday morning, Higgs had been feeling like he'd messed up. This feeling had been then strongly backed up by Higgs' non-lunch with Max the previous day. The conversation he'd had over journals with Siobhan after had been... interesting, Higgs supposed. It hadn't been an easy conversation and he'd felt himself get more and more tired throughout it, but Siobhan clearly needed someone to talk to and Higgs both wanted to and partially also felt obliged to be that someone. Whilst he did know that what happened between Max and Siobhan wasn't actually Higgs' fault, he did still feel bad for having, well, somehow, accidentally, thrown their lives into chaos. Siobhan, bless her, hadn't actually blamed Higgs, which did make a change from Max.
Higgs couldn't even feel angry or offended at Max for doing so. Of course, he did recognise that most of Max's anger towards him was not actually anything to do with Higgs. He was unhappy in his own life and Higgs was an easy person to take that anger out on. Quite honestly, Higgs didn't even mind if it meant that Max might feel better. Even a little, since Higgs doubted it would greatly bring any improvement. Still, whilst Max almost definitely hated Higgs, at least Siobhan was still happy to be friends with him. Maybe, Higgs thought, at some point Max might change his mind, too (though, Higgs wasn't going to hold his breath).
Since he'd asked Gladys if he could see her before speaking to Siobhan, Higgs felt he should still go over, even if the thing he had wanted to talk to her about was no longer as pressing. Still, it wasn't exactly a hardship to see his grandmother. "Nan?" Higgs called out as he stepped through the Floo, straight from the Ministry. "Hello," Dennis greeted him and Higgs grinned at the bird. "Hi, Dennis," he replied since it was only polite.
